Who Are We?

About Pioneers

Pioneers started as a one-on-one tutoring service and has since evolved into a comprehensive online tutoring service. We decided to switch to online tutoring to provide flexibility for families and increase the number of students we can take on. Our mission is to take students of all ages and academic backgrounds and create confident learners. Each tutoring session is professionally planned by a qualified teacher and is based on the individual students’ learning ability and current academic aptitude. We plan our lessons according to the current Australian curriculum, ensuring each of our pioneers meets their curriculum objectives. Regardless of their learning style or ability, students from year 2 to year 12 will love meeting and exceeding their learning goals, gaining the confidence to flourish in the classroom.

About Our Founder

Pioneers Tutoring was founded by Gabby, a teacher with a Bachelors, Masters, and 14 years of experience under her belt. Gabby confesses that when she attended school, she lacked confidence and often hid away at the back of the classroom. She recognises that every student has the capacity to learn, and she strives to provide a fun, rewarding, engaging experience for every learner at Pioneers Tutoring. As a mother herself, Gabby understands first-hand a parents’ desire to see their children thrive in the classroom and realise their full academic potential. She has a deep passion for helping students find confidence in their learning ability, engaging them with tailored teaching strategies and lesson plans that meet their individual learning needs.

  • About Gabby

Hi, I am Gabby, I am the founder of Pioneers Tutoring

My educational journey which led me to become so passionate about revolutionising the current educational system began when I was in year 8 and realised that this current system did not only not suit me but was also causing me to regress in my studies.

From this point I worked extremely hard to educate myself to a year 10 standard, onto and through a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Education. But my learning didn’t stop there, I have continued to undergo qualifications in the area and am about to embark on a PHD in the educational space.

One thing that I pride myself on is keeping my staff up to date in best practise as tutors ensuring that we give the utmost quality and value in each and every session. I am confident that each one of our students will improve and become more confident as a learner

  • About Tash

As a photographer by trade, I have always been into the visual arts and a huge supporter of the benefits of creativity especially when used in fostering a child’s desire to learn!

Before tutoring with Pioneers I was working with students in the Flemington Flats for over a year; assisting them with their homework and studies. In doing so, my passion for helping children grew. I could see just how much support and extra help is needed to aid children in our society achieve their goals. I could not think of a more rewarding task, and so I jumped right on board to work with Pioneers Tutoring.

In my years of experience both as a photographer and tutor, I have found that children have an innate energy and creative flare that is unmatched. They’e imagination is boundless, and they start off their life like they’re taking on a huge new adventure. Learning should be just as much of an exciting adventure, no matter the subject.

My main goal is to make learning exciting and fun for children. Each child we see learns differently, has different interests and different goals. I truly believe in acknowledging a child’s individuality, tailoring their lessons to suit their personality and learning level. At Pioneers we build a strong foundation of understanding on the part of a student, increasing their willingness to learn and ability to apply what they have learned so that your child can succeed at what ever they wish to do.

I also aim to make my kids laugh at least once in my classes (yes, terrible dad jokes are known to have been used on more than one occasion). ;)

  • About Solange

Hi there, my name is Solange!

I’m 27 years old (which you probably think is as old as dinosaurs!) and I live in sunny Queensland. I am passionate about all things music which is why you might find me singing or dancing along sometimes. I am also a huge lover of animals. When I was a kid I had all sorts of animals, from rabbits, fish, budgies, hermit crabs, dogs and even a turtle! His name was Donatello (like the Ninja turtles!). If you’re an animal lover too, I’m sure we’ll have plenty of stories to share . One of my favourite things to do is trying something I’ve never done before, or that I may not be very good at. This is usually a sport! I can’t throw or kick a ball very well, but I love to have a go at everything and be a part of the fun! Just because you might not succeed at everything, doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy doing it! Never be afraid to try new things and be able to laugh at yourself.

My passion for teaching developed as an adult, but I do believe that role-playing as a teacher when I was a kid with my sister may have started this love of learning. I have recently completed my degree of Bachelor of Education (Primary). My experiences includes a culmination of practical experiences throughout my degree as well as volunteer work in schools. I have extensive knowledge of the curriculum and various pedagogies to suit the needs of diverse students. I have worked with students from rural locations, students who require additional support as well as those from diverse cultural backgrounds. I consider myself as a life-long learner. Learning doesn’t stop once you finish school, it can continue for as long as you like, even as an adult I continue to learn new things and some even from my students. One of my favourite quotes from B. B. King is “Education is the one thing that no one can take from you” which is why I challenge students to foster a love, passion and appreciation for learning, because it is something that will be theirs forever.

  • About Alicia

Hi, I am Alicia and I am Senior Tutor here at Pioneers. I am also a mum of two beautiful children.

What led me to become a tutor is my genuine passion to see children do well throughout their educational journey’s and the unshakeable belief that every child can learn.

One of the things I am known for is making my students laugh (sometimes it’s just me – but that’s still funny… at least for me) and feel good about themselves. I love to have a laugh and make sessions really fun. My students are my friends and I treat them as such, making the learning experience enjoyable; learning should be fun and not a serious, arduous task.

I am not in the business of trying to change my student’s personality or improve my student’s by pointing out errors, rather inviting my student to think things out for themselves.

My love of science and health lead me to start a Bachelor of Health Science which I am currently studying and as well as tutoring primary and secondary Maths and English, I also tutor primary and secondary science!

Emily

Tutor

  • About Emily

Hey! My name is Emily, and I’m a tutor here at Pioneers.

I am very passionate and enthusiastic about education and helping students achieve their goals; I have always enjoyed caring for and teaching children, which prompted me to become a tutor. Since then, I have completed many certificates in the field of study and many years of experience caring for children. I am a kid at heart in the way I can make learning fun and get students enthusiastic about learning. The most enjoyable part of tutoring is when a student reaches a complete understanding of a concept. It’s like a lightbulb flicked on, and they brighten up immediately! My goal is to make a big difference in our educational system today so that students can use and apply the things they have learned in life and really succeed in that area. I am excited I have the opportunity to make a difference and brighten up a student’s day with lessons that are interactive, educational, and most importantly, FUN!

Kim

Teacher

  • About Kim

As a qualified teacher with a Diploma of Education, I have taught in mainstream schools and helped create, establish and taught at a private alternative school in Victoria.

Never being happy with mainstream educational teaching methods, I have always worked towards learning the most effective ways to educate children.

Each child is an individual and the wonderful thing about tutoring is that you can spend the time and learn what it is that interests and motivates the children you are tutoring and ensure this becomes part of the learning process.

I believe that everyone has the capacity to achieve their dreams and the only thing stopping them is their lack of confidence and knowledge in how to do this. Being taught to think and question goes a long way to achieving one's goals.

I am very basic oriented in my teaching approach, and although it may seem “old fashioned” in some ways (I am a grandmother of 5!), I believe firmly in a solid grounding in the basics of reading and math for children to achieve confidence in themselves and be happy in their learning journey.

Tammy

Tutor

  • About Tammy

Hi my name is Tammy and I am a tutor at Pioneers!

For as long as I could remember helping children has always been a purpose of mine. I have always enjoyed helping children learn and see that sparkle in their eye when they work something out.

I have a Cert III in Children Services and have worked with children on and off throughout my life. As of 2023 I have five years of experience working within education. I first started tutoring children when I volunteered to help young kids during the school holidays. At first it was to help the parents who worked full time keep the children busy but as time went on it became my favourite time of the year!

I would help the students understand basic gramma, how to learn basic concepts and how to better comprehend what they were reading. Also how to keep the children interested in what was being taught so they can retain the information. Most importantly I made it fun for them!

Helping children isn’t a job, it's a passion! All children learn differently and I always love finding out how their mind works and how I can best help them!

As children are our future I feel that investing time into making sure each child succeeds is a more than worthwhile purpose.

Clara

Tutor

  • About Clara

Hey! I’m Clara, and I tutor for Pioneers.

I’m definitely someone who you’d classify as a dreamer - as a person who is herself a keen learner, I am constantly inspired by people, the environment and the Arts, and I love the interconnectedness of the world. As a tutor, I aim to inspire children in the same fashion: I believe that their learning, no matter at what stage or age, should not only be a fun process, but it should also be something that they come to love - after all, it is only through learning that we come to understand the internal world of ourselves, and the external world around us. Education should be about empowerment - therefore, children, through their education, should not only meet the requirements of a syllabus, but through formal education they should also learn about their more important selves: their personalities, identities, interests, purposes, goals.

If I were to choose one out of many of my loves in this world, it would have to be for literature. I myself have much to learn about it (but really, when does learning stop?), and I really believe that storytelling encapsulates all. It is not only a great way to learn concepts, but it is everywhere and ultimately speaks to the complexities of humanity. I am in my own endeavour to learn about the world through the lens of people and place. I do so in a double degree of the Arts (majoring in English) and Environmental Studies.

Overall, I believe everything can be interesting, because everything is intertwined - what better way to learn a concept, than to tailor it around a child’s very own personal passions? One thing can be seen, taught and learned in so many different ways, which itself is just one of the beauties of tutoring. I am youthfully excited about the world, and I am even more excited to make youth the same.

Katey

Teacher

  • About Katey

Hi! My name is Katey, and I am a tutor at Pioneers.

I'm originally from the US where I taught English and Drama at a secondary school in New York City. You will probably notice my accent if we meet! My own educational background includes a Master's Degree in English Teaching and a Bachelor's degree in English and American Literature and Drama. In addition to teaching, I was a juror for the English Speaking Union's annual high school Shakespeare Competition for the last three years. I firmly believe there is no better teacher than a good book.

The most important role for an educator is to build confidence and curiosity. These personal qualities are valuable far beyond the classroom years. My goal is not just to help your child manage school, but to help them become a lifelong learner. I love that with Pioneers I'm able to work closely with students in an individualized way. Each student is unique, so their learning process should be too.

Grace

Tutor

  • About Grace

Hi! I’m Grace (Graciela), native from Argentina and a world traveller! I graduated as a Cultural Anthropologist in 2010 in the United States. I’ve been a teacher for more than 10 years, mostly teaching English grammar and pronunciation, but I’ve also taught Spanish, history, geography, and cultural studies. I’ve worked in a radio station as a broadcaster, and as a book editor in a publishing company, crazy! But all of this has taught me a lot about the language and its development.

I love music and play the guitar and the bass. I like video games and play Nintendo Switch, and I’m pretty good at it! But sadly, I don’t have enough time to do so :(... I love animals! In every single country I lived I dog-sited or cat-sited. What a wonderful company they are! And as a good native Argentinian I love football, I don’t play it but I do watch and follow every single championship.

In the last couple of years, I’ve taken training courses on elementary teaching, which made me think of how important the learning process is. I love to pay careful attention to my students, creating safe and fun environments for them to learn, and providing constant positive reinforcement.

We all know that the experiences we have during the years of our childhood, well, many of them, we never forget. We carry these memories probably for the rest of our lives, such as our primary school teacher, teachings, friends, and even language expressions and the way we speak. So then, how important it is, as teachers, to help kids create wonderful memories and stable learning processes, to enjoy this period of life which is the foundation of our education.
